"Analogies"

2010 | Filmstrip remains | analogous | 35mm film

I have repeatedly realised that the things I wanted to show couldn’t be detected in the photographed images. Too much was already on my mind: I could neither find a corresponding reality out there, nor was I fascinated with the things that I was familiar with before. I actually wanted to discover and convince myself that there’s a lot of beauty and excitement out there—if one would only take a look with the right attitude, unbiased, and open-minded.

A radical step forward was required. I concentrated my attention to the part of the developed film strip, which is normally cut off and trashed. Amazing things were revealed. Inadvertently emerging light and traces of the manufacturing process. Or random shots, which occur after inserting the film, when the shutter release is pressed a few times and the film is avanced. As a consequence, colors, drawings, structures, and geometric shapes appeared. What I only had to do was to choose the detail, everything else was already there.
